There are many Organs in my cohort, all of whom were related. The best place to view these connections is Andrew Plaister’s book on the Organs, and the facebook page dedicated to the family.
At the time of the ’41 Census, Henry and George were living somewhere in the Howley portion of the parish, with their mother and father – Charles (an agricultural labourer) and Elizabeth. Also in the household was Charles’ grandfather, Abraham, who was still recorded as an agricultural labourer, at the age of 70! His father, George, was living elsewhere in the parish.
At the following Census, the couple had two more children, but George had died, aged 12, that year.
A decade later, Henry, now an agricultural labourer himself, was living with his family on the Gloucester Road in the parish.
In 1864, he married Mary Ann Jackson, in Bristol. Mary Ann had been born in Uley. In 1871, the couple were living on Adey’s Lane, Wotton under Edge. Henry was working as a gardener. Ten years later, they had moved to Rymers Row in Wotton, and were living with a lodger. In ’91, they were on Coombe Road. They lived there until Henry’s death in 1909. He was 73, and was buried in St Mary’s churchyard, in Wotton. Mary Ann died in 1940, aged 101.
