In 1841, the family of Thomas and Ann Robinson – their four children, Thomas’ brother George, and two servants, lived at Sandfield Farm. Thomas had inherited the farm from his father, George, who had died in 1837. Thomas’ grandfather, Thomas, had specified in his will of 1833 that, on George’s death, Thomas would inherit.
The land owned by Thomas is shown in blue on the map below, a transcription of the Tithe Apportionment map of 1847, reproduced with the kind permission of Geoff Gwatkin

The plot highlighted in green was leased by Thomas to Robert Mason.
Sadly, in early 1842, Thomas died, aged only 8 months old.
By 1851, two more children had been born. A governess and a servant were also in the household.
Ten years later, Thomas was farming at Rushmire Farm, on the Cotswold Escarpment between North Nibley and Wotton under Edge. Thomas died the following year, aged 62, and was buried in St Martins churchyard.
Up until their father’s death, George and Edward were living with their parents. Just before his father’s death, George had married Mary Camm, in Stinchcombe. The couple had seven children. He seems to have continued running Rushmire Farm for the next two decades, but, at the time of the ’81 Census, he was back at Sandfield Farm, where he continued to farm until his death in 1917, aged 84.
Edward Collins (his mother’s maiden name was Collins) was left and £40 annuity in his father’s will, with the condition that he wasn’t allowed to dispose of it, plus £200, so it appears that he had limited capabilities. In the ’51 and ’61 Census. In 1871, he was living with his widowed mother, Ann, at the Butts, on Bradley Road, Wotton under Edge. In 1881 and 1891, they were living in Haw Street. Edward was recorded as having ‘no occupation’.
After his mother’s death, Edward lived alone in Orchard Street. He died in 1904, aged 68, and is buried in the churchyard of St Martins.
Ann died in 1851, aged 13, and was buried, again, in the churchyard of St Martins.
