The circled property was two properties, the northern half was occupied by Joseph and Elizabeth Pick and their children, William and Ann. The other half was occupied by Elizabeth’s father, Matthew Hill, his wife and two children.

Joseph and Elizabeth had married only 2 years before

Joseph was a labourer and, between 1845 and 1851, the family had moved to Frampton on Severn and three more children had been added to the family. In 1861 the family, apart from William, were still in Frampton on Severn. Ann was recorded as being a dressmaker. William was living at the Bell Inn, on Frampton Green, working as an ostler.

In 1871, Joseph was recorded as a coal merchant, living on Rosamond Green, Frampton on Severn. Ann is still at home, still a dressmaker. William had married Jane Bird in 1862 and, in 1871, his wife and six children were living on the Green, while Joseph, on that night, at least, was at the Bell, still working as an ostler.

The Late Mr William Pick

Funeral at Frampton on Severn

The quiet little village of Frampton on Severn has again been thrown into mourning by the death of Mr William Pick, who for thirty years has conducted the George Hotel, Frocester, where he had gained innumerable friends by his courteous and jovial manner. He leaves a widow, two sons, and five daughters. The funeral cortege left the house on Tuesday afternoon about half-past one o’clock. The coffin was conveyed in a glass panelled hearse, from which were hung a large number of wreaths, the coffin iteself was also covered in flowers. Severl mourning coaches were provided for those who attended the funeral, as the deceased was interred in Frampton churchyard, where other members of his family (including his father and mother) are laid to rest…..Blinds were drawn in many windows at both Frocester and Frampton, the deceased being known equally well at both places and at Frampton several flags were flying half-mast high.

Returning to Anne, she married Thomas Hale, a baker from East Dean, in 1874, but, in 1881, she was living (or staying) with her parents in Frampton. Until her death in 1922, at the age of 81, she lived in Frampton. They had no children.
