William Cole (1840-1852)

In 1841, William was living in Stumpwell, North Nibley, with his grandparents, Daniel and Mary. In the same household were his uncle Henry, aged 14, and his aunt Charlotte, aged 10. William was baptised at St Martins, in North Nibley on the 19th April, 1840, as the illegitimate son of Elizabeth Cole. On his death certificate, his father is given as Peter Terrett.

A month later, Elizabeth married Peter Terrett and, in ’51 William appears as William Terrett, living in Gloucester Row, Wotton under Edge, with Elizabeth, Peter, and William’s step-siblings.

William died, aged 12, and is buried in the churchyard of St Mary’s, Wotton under Edge. His cause of death was rheumatic fever, with associated rheumatic pericarditis.
